Use wireframes. These are your interface's simplified blueprints (usually made in grayscale). It enables you to map out where everything goes and how to make the UI design more impactful and user-friendly.
Add ample white space. White space is essential in UI design. It differentiates clickable areas and actions the user can take. Negative space also makes it easier for users to tap on smaller touchscreen devices (ever get frustrated when buttons are too small and close together?).
Another reason why you absolutely must add white space is because it gives your interface design a clean and uncomplicated look. Your users won't feel confused and overwhelmed at first glance.
Imagine things in 3D. In reality, everything on a digital surface is just pixels, but UI design is about turning pixels into tactile surfaces. This is especially true for touchscreens—how can you make the user intuitively understand how to use various touch surfaces?
Subtle shading, highlights, drop shadows, and color changes convey raised and recessed surfaces. These visual textures also provide feedback to let the user know which elements are clickable and when they've completed an action.
While this is part of the skeuomorphism trend in design, flat design and glassmorphism are also popular design approaches in UI design.
The key to great UI design is simplicity and subtlety. Emphasizing a minimalistic approach reduces clutter and focuses on essential functionalities, leading to a more intuitive and user-friendly interface.
Subtlety in the animation and color change of design elements like colors, typography, and spacing can significantly enhance usability without overwhelming the user.
This approach aligns with the core principles of UI design, advocating for designs that are easy to understand and interact with while providing a seamless and enjoyable user experience.
Linearity Move offers robust features for creating, exploring, and managing color palettes within its intuitive interface.
Users can easily select colors from the palette or use the built-in color picker to capture precise hues. The software also provides tools for organizing and saving custom palettes, streamlining the design process for users.
Yes, it's essential to consider factors like accessibility, contrast, and readability when applying color palettes. Testing color combinations for legibility, especially for text and background elements, is crucial.
Maintaining consistency across different platforms and devices also ensures a seamless user experience.
Color theory principles such as complementary, analogous, and triadic color schemes can guide the selection and arrangement of colors within a palette to evoke specific emotions or achieve visual balance.
Understanding hue, saturation, and value helps create harmonious color combinations.
Numerous tools are available, ranging from simple color pickers to advanced palette generators. Some popular options include Adobe Color, Coolors, and Color Hunt.
Linearity Move's integrated color picker and palette creation tools offer seamless integration within the design workflow.
Inspiration for color palettes can come from nature, art, fashion, websites dedicated to color schemes, and existing designs that evoke the desired aesthetic.
Color palettes are fundamental in design. They establish the visual tone, mood, and coherence of a project. They guide the selection of colors for various elements, ensuring consistency and harmony throughout the design.
Common design mistakes include cluttered layouts, not following an effective visual hierarchy, poor contrast between text and background, not keeping your branding consistent, not making your design mobile-friendly, using too many different fonts or colors, and neglecting to include a clear CTA.
Review your ad campaigns regularly, ideally weekly or bi-weekly, to monitor performance and make necessary adjustments. This will help you respond to changes in audience behavior, market trends, and campaign effectiveness.
Improve CTR by creating compelling ad copy, using eye-catching visuals, targeting the right audience, and ensuring your call to action (CTA) is clear and persuasive. A/B testing different ad variations can also help identify what resonates best with your audience.
To craft compelling ad copy, keep these tips in mind:
- Know your audience: Understand your audience's pain points, desires, and preferences to tailor your message effectively. Example:
- Nike: "Just Do It": This timeless tagline inspires action, encouraging individuals to overcome obstacles and pursue their goals.
- Be concise: Avoid unnecessary words and get straight to the point. Avoid jargon or complex language. Example:
- Apple: "Think Different": Apple's slogan celebrates innovation and non-conformity, aligning with the brand's identity.
- Use emotional appeal: Appeal to your audience's emotions. Whether it's joy, fear, or empathy, emotions drive action. Example:
- Coca-Cola: "Open Happiness": Coca-Cola's tagline associates the drink with joy, positivity, and shared moments
Creating an advertisement, whether for a product, service, or cause, offers many advantages that can significantly impact your business or project's success. The key benefits of making an ad are:
- Boosts visibility and brand awareness.
- Engages your audience emotionally.
- Drives sales and conversions.
- Builds trust and credibility.
- Targets relevant audiences.
- Gives a competitive edge.
- Allows message control.
- Provides data for optimization.
- Has a lasting impact.
- Supports causes.
- Encourages creative expression.
To change the coloring of an Image Trace, you must first edit the colors of the image itself. Select the image and navigate to Edit > Edit Colors in the main menu, then choose one of the available recoloring options.
Once done, you can open the Image Trace panel and choose Mode > Color. This will ensure your traced image contains the new colors.
Another way to recolor a traced image is to Expand the Image Trace and use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to select the areas you want to recolor. You can then recolor your selection by choosing a Fill color from the palette.
There may be one of three reasons why you're unable to use Image Trace in Illustrator:
- You haven't selected the image using the Selection tool (V). Go back to your Artboard, select the image to be traced, and try again.
- Your image is already a vector. Image Trace only works with raster images.
- You've already traced the image. If you've already performed an Image Trace on the image, it's now in vector format and can't be traced. To turn the traced vector into editable paths, click Expand.
Yes. You can always use the drawing tools in Illustrator to trace an image.
Manual tracing using the Pen tool gives you more control over the image trace result because you'll draw all the shapes yourself. It'll also give you more creative freedom.
But keep in mind that this process is much more time-consuming. It requires advanced use of the Pen tool, which might be challenging if you're not familiar with this feature.
For an alternative to Adobe Illustrator, see how Linearity Curve (formerly Vectornator) compares. Our vector design software offers Auto Trace and Pen Tool features that rival Illustrator.
- Accessing Image Trace Panel: To start tracing an image, you first need to open it in Adobe Illustrator. After that, you can access the Image Trace tool by selecting Window > Image Trace. This will bring up the Image Trace panel.
- Mode selection: Illustrator allows you to select the mode that best suits your design through a drop-down menu in the Image Trace panel. The three available Modes are: Color, Grayscale, and Black and White. Your choice will influence the following steps and how your final image will look.
- Colors, Grays, or Threshold sliders: Depending on the mode you've chosen, you'll adjust either the Colors, Grays, or black-and-white Threshold slider. The Colors slider controls the maximum number of colors used for tracing. The Grays slider adjusts the grayscale accuracy from 0 to 100. The Threshold slider sets a value where pixels darker than it are converted to black. Balancing these sliders will prevent your image from becoming too plain or too complex, depending on your specific needs.
- Advanced options: By toggling down the Advanced menu, you can access more options for fine-tuning your traced image.
- Paths slider: This slider sets the number of paths in your design. A design with fewer paths will be simpler, but too few can distort your image. Too many paths will produce jagged edges in your design. So, you want to strike a balance.
- Corners slider: This slider controls the number of corners in your design. Having fewer corners will produce more rounded curves in your design. If you want sharper curves, increase the corners.
- Noise slider: The Noise slider instructs Image Trace to ignore the parts of your image that fit within the pixel amount set. A higher amount will result in less noise, which can be helpful for eliminating unwanted elements of your design. However, it might also remove important, smaller details, so it's crucial to test how much noise your design needs.
- Method: You can choose Abutting or Overlapping paths. Abutting paths don't cross each other, they create cutout paths. Overlapping paths can cross each other, but may be more challenging to edit afterwards.
- Create: In Black and White Mode, you can choose whether Image Trace should create Fills, Strokes, or both. Fills will create a traced image with color-filled shapes. Strokes will create outlines of the traced shapes.
- Stroke: Set the Stroke weight if you've checked Create Strokes.
- Option: Two checkboxes with extra options. Check Snap Curves To Lines if you'd like more straight lines in your traced image. Check Ignore White if you want white-colored Fills to be set to None (clear).
- Preview option: Tick the Preview box with your image selected. This will give you a real-time view of your image as it's being transformed into a vector format. If it doesn't look perfect right away, don't worry. You can make as many adjustments as you need to get the look you're aiming for.
- Trace: Click the Trace button when you're ready to turn your raster image into a vector using the above settings.
After you've made all the necessary adjustments and clicked Trace, click the Expand button at the top of the screen and Save your image as an .ai, .pdf, .svg, .eps, or any other available vector file type.
Open an Adobe Illustrator file and place a raster image on your Artboard. Select the image and navigate to Object > Image Trace > Make to trace the image with preset settings.
To edit the paths immediately after performing the Image Trace, choose Object > Image Trace > Make and Expand.
If you'd prefer more control over the Image Trace result and want to tweak the settings, navigate to Window > Image Trace to open the Image Trace panel.
In computer graphics, image tracing is the process of converting raster files into vector files. Image Trace in Adobe Illustrator and Auto Trace in Linearity Curve (formerly Vectornator) automatically convert raster images into editable vector paths and shapes.
Adobe Illustrator’s Image Trace feature is one of the tools you can use to turn images into vectors. For example, if you need to scale a logo to a large format, you can turn it into a vector using Image Trace.
Linearity Curve's (formerly Vectornator) Auto Trace feature is an AI-powered image tracing tool that you can try as an alternative to Illustrator.
As you may know, any bitmap image is composed of pixels. The more you zoom in on a bitmap image, the more you'll notice pixelation.
The same problem may appear when you try to scale it down. That is where vector images come into play. Once the image is converted into a vector, its shape will be scalable indefinitely.
No matter how much you want to zoom in or out, you won't see any pixels, and the quality of the image or logo will stay intact.
The reason for this is that vector images are not based on pixels, but on mathematical equations called Bézier curves.
Tracing an entire image in Illustrator may not come out as perfect as you'd like each time, especially if you're trying to trace complicated logos or photos. But you can tweak the image with the various vector editing features available.
You can preview transparency by toggling the Transparency Grid button at the bottom of the Composition window.
If your After Effects video isn't transparent, double-check that you selected RGB + Alpha in the Output Module Settings. Also, ensure you use a codec that supports transparency, such as PNG or Animation.
Pre-multiplied Alpha means the transparent edges of your video will blend with a background color, while Straight Alpha maintains clean transparency without any background blending. For most purposes, Straight Alpha is preferred when exporting a transparent video.
To maintain transparency, you need to enable the alpha channel. In After Effects, go to the Output Module Settings and choose RGB + Alpha under the Channels dropdown.
In Linearity Move, simply toggle on Transparent Background when exporting your video.
Video file types that allow transparency include:
- MOV (QuickTime Movie): H.265, Animation, PNG, ProRes 4444, GoPro CineForm
- AVI (Audio Video Interleave): Uncompressed (with alpha channel)
- WEBM: VP8 or VP9 (supports transparency)
- FLV (Flash Video): FLV with alpha channel (less common today but still supports transparency)
- MKV (Matroska): VP9 (supports transparency)
Each of these file types and codecs supports the alpha channel, which is necessary for video transparency. The most commonly used formats are MOV with the PNG or ProRes 4444 codec for high-quality transparent videos.
The popular MP4 format doesn't natively support transparency because it relies on codecs like H.264, which don't include an alpha channel. This means any transparent areas in your composition will be rendered with a solid background color when exported as an MP4.

Understanding different logo shapes can help you convey the right message about your brand. Here are some common shapes and what they typically represent:
- Circles: Often associated with unity, community, and stability. Brands looking to portray a sense of inclusivity or longevity might opt for circular logos. You may most often see circles used in food and beauty logos.
- Squares and rectangles: These shapes suggest stability and reliability. They're popular choices for banks and law firms wanting to project strength and professionalism.
- Triangles: Triangles can indicate direction, movement, or progress. Depending on their orientation, they can also suggest stability (when positioned on their base) or dynamism (when positioned on a vertex). These are often used for business services logos.
- Organic shapes: These include more natural, less geometric shapes. They’re often used to represent comfort, uniqueness, and approachability. These shapes are popular for homemade product designs and handmade clothing logos.
Each shape can have various interpretations based on cultural contexts and design execution. In Linearity Curve, you can create and experiment with these shapes to find the one that best suits your brand's identity and values.

- Create a mood board: Use different colors, typography, and design elements that convey your visual identity.
- Align colors with brand personality: Think blue for trust (finance), red for excitement (sports), or green for growth (eco-friendly products).
- Evoke emotions with fonts: Serif fonts like Times New Roman suggest tradition (law firms), sans-serif fonts like Helvetica feel modern (tech companies), and script fonts add a personal touch (handmade crafts).
- Test for a cohesive brand aesthetic: Experiment with colors and fonts to see how they work together and create a unified brand image.

No, color therapy should not replace traditional medical treatments. It's often used as a complementary approach. It's crucial to consult with healthcare professionals before making any major health-related decisions based on color therapy.
While color therapy has roots in ancient practices, modern scientific studies on its effectiveness are limited. Certain aspects, like blue light therapy for seasonal affective disorder (SAD), have been researched extensively.
Understanding your objectives, the target audience, color associations, and contrasting effectively are some ways to incorporate color therapy in design. Experimenting with color combinations, maintaining consistency, testing, optimizing your color choices, and seeking professional guidance can also be beneficial.
Colors can evoke emotions and drive consumer behavior. For example, red can evoke excitement and urgency, often used in clearance sales, while blue can evoke trust and calm, often seen in corporate and healthcare settings.

Start simple. Focus on mastering basic folds and cuts before moving to more complex designs. Also, keep an eye on current trends for inspiration.
Relying on a template like our H-fold paper box will simplify the process and make creating custom packaging easier.
Balancing aesthetic appeal with practicality can be challenging when designing packaging. Ensure your design is attractive, functional, and easy to assemble.
Stick to minimalist patterns so that your logo and text take center stage and are legible. It won't matter that you have good-looking packaging if your customers struggle to read about the product inside.
Make sure to choose the right paper. Remember, your box must be printed on a single sheet of paper, and different paper stocks have different sheet sizes available. If you're going to have special printing effects applied, such as gold foil or spot UV, there may also be paper size limitations.
Digital printing works well for complex designs and smaller runs. Offset printing is ideal for higher quantities and offers excellent color accuracy. If you're a home business owner, you'll print smaller runs and should consider digital printing.
The best material depends on your product and brand. Consider sturdy cardstock for durability and lighter-weight paper for delicate designs. Always think about sustainability and reducing waste.

Digital brochures are most commonly distributed in formats compatible with online use. Common file formats for digital brochures include .jpeg, .png, and .gif. These formats are widely supported by web browsers and email clients, ensuring your audience can easily access and view your digital brochure online.
These formats are suitable for incorporating images, graphics, and interactive elements, making them versatile choices for creating engaging and visually appealing digital brochures.
For digital brochures, the recommended resolution depends on the intended use. For web display, a resolution of 72dpi is typically suitable. This resolution provides clear and crisp images on computer screens and mobile devices.
However, if you plan to offer high-quality printing options for your digital brochures, consider using a resolution of 300dpi or higher. This ensures that your brochure maintains its visual integrity when printed physically. Adjusting the resolution accordingly allows you to provide the best user experience for online and offline audiences.
While using a similar design for print and digital brochures is possible, it's essential to consider format-specific requirements for optimal results. Print and digital brochures have different dimensions, color modes, and resolutions.
Print brochures typically require higher resolutions (300dpi or higher) for high-quality printing, while digital brochures can have lower resolutions (72dpi) for web display. This speed can be crucial for time-sensitive information or promotions. Second, digital brochures are cost-effective. They eliminate printing and distribution costs associated with traditional brochures.
You can save on expenses and allocate your budget to other aspects of your marketing campaign. Third, digital brochures offer interactivity. You can incorporate multimedia elements such as videos, hyperlinks, and interactive features, enhancing user engagement and making it easier for readers to take action.

App icon design has evolved significantly since the digital age, mirroring the rapid advancement of technology and changing user preferences. In the early days of personal computing, icons were simple, monochrome representations limited by the hardware and graphical capabilities of the time.
As graphical user interfaces (GUIs) became standard in the 1980s, icons gained more colors and detail, but they remained simplistic due to screen resolution limitations.
The launch of the Apple Macintosh in 1984 marked a turning point, introducing a more intuitive and visually driven computing experience. Their new icons, designed by Susan Kare (using graph paper to mimic pixelation) became more detailed and colorful, aiming to mimic real-world objects to make the digital environment more accessible to users.
This design philosophy dominated for decades, peaking with the rich textures and lifelike details seen in early iOS and Android icons.
In the mid-2010s, we shifted towards flat design, spurred by Microsoft's Metro design language and later adopted by Apple's iOS 7. This trend emphasized minimalism, solid colors, and simplicity, moving away from imitating real-life textures to focus on clarity and usability. The flat design era also introduced the concept of adaptive icons in Android, allowing for more flexibility and consistency across different devices.
Today, app icon design blends past trends and new innovations. Designers prioritize recognizable, scalable icons that stand out in crowded digital marketplaces. The emergence of dynamic and interactive icons hints at the future, where icons might serve as static visuals and as gateways to deeper app functionalities and personalized experiences.
Throughout its history, app icon design has reflected broader graphic design and technology trends, continuously adapting to improve user experience and engagement in the quest for a perfect app icon.
Common mistakes include overcomplicating the design, using too many colors or fonts, and creating an icon that's too similar to competitors. Avoiding these pitfalls is crucial. Here are some expert icon design tips:
- Focus on simplicity
- Ensure readability
- Strive for a unique design that captures your app's essence
- Test your icon on various backgrounds and image sizes to check that it’s universally accessible and appealing
Updating your app icon can effectively refresh your app's appearance or signal major updates and improvements. However, changes that are too frequent might confuse your user base.
Updating your icon to align with design trends or major app upgrades is often a good idea, ensuring you maintain brand recognition.
While it's possible to include text in your app icon design, visual elements are generally recommended. Text can become unreadable in smaller sizes. If you must use text, limit it to a few characters or an abbreviation and ensure it's legible across all sizes.
To make your app icon stand out, focus on simplicity, uniqueness, and relevance. Use vibrant colors and a distinct shape to catch the eye while ensuring the icon is recognizable and reflects your app's purpose.
Testing different designs and conducting market research can help determine what resonates best with your target audience.
The ideal size for an app icon varies depending on the platform. For iOS, the App Store requires icons to be 1024 x 1024px, which are scaled down for various devices. Android icons vary more in size, but the Google Play Store recommends a 512 x 512px image.
It's essential to design in high resolution to ensure your icon looks sharp across all devices. Using vector graphics, as with Linearity Curve, allows for scalability without losing quality.

Consistency in animation style, colors, and typography across all your digital platforms will help reinforce your brand identity.
Web and app design trends include immersive experiences, microinteractions, and personalized content. Accessibility and user-centric designs are crucial as more technologies cater to diverse demographics.
Bold and expressive colors are dominating the design scene. Expect to see vibrant hues contrasted with pastel and earthy tones for balance. Our Designer and Marketer, Nastya Kuliábina, says she employs the 60-30-10 color proportion rule, where she designates a primary color (60%) to serve as the "canvas" for highlighting the complementary (30%) and accent (10%) colors.
Sustainability is a key trend in design, with designers focusing on eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient processes, and upcycling. This trend extends to architecture, interior design, typography design, and fashion.
Three key tools and technologies include:
- Linearity Curve and Linearity Move: A powerful combo of vector graphics and marketing animation tools for designing brand assets, animated 2D illustrations, and kinetic typography.

Peach Fuzz, Pantone's Color of the Year for 2024, creates warm, comforting designs. It's versatile and applied in various mediums like packaging, interior design, and digital media. Companies like Desenio are incorporating it into poster designs, emphasizing its adaptability and soothing qualities.
The most common vector formats for logos are .ai, .eps, and .svg. .ai and .eps are native formats for Adobe Illustrator, while .svg is an open-source format ideal for web use. But .curve is the ideal format for working with our software, Linearity Curve and Linearity Move.
Logos with too much detail can become cluttered and lose impact, especially when scaled down. Aim for simplicity and focus on conveying the brand's essence.
However, since vector logos are based on paths and not pixels, they can be resized infinitely without losing quality and detail.
There is no single "perfect" size for creating your vector logo. A good rule of thumb is to start with a size that feels comfortable within your design software, like 500 x 500px or 800 x 800px.
When exporting your vector logo for specific uses, you'll need to consider the pixel dimensions for that application. Here are some common examples:
- Website favicon: 16 x 16px or 32 x 32px
- Social media profile pictures:
- Facebook and X (Twitter): 400 x 400px (can be cropped to a circle)
- Instagram: 1080 x 1080px (recommended)
- Email signature: Around 200–300px wide
- Print (business cards and brochures): 300dpi at desired print size (contact printer for print format sizes)

Strong graphic design gives your brand a distinct visual identity for that all-important competitive edge. A well-designed brand can attract attention, build credibility, and leave a lasting impression on potential customers.
Graphic design and marketing design are cousins in the world of visual communication, but they each serve different purposes. Advertising design focuses on creating persuasive, attention-grabbing visuals for specific marketing campaigns, with the clear goal of driving sales. Think of a flashy billboard.
Marketing design, on the other hand, has a broader scope. It creates all sorts of visual elements used throughout a marketing strategy, from website design to social media graphics. The goal here is to build a consistent brand identity and achieve various goals, like brand awareness or customer loyalty, that ultimately lead to sales.
In addition to watermarking your content, consider implementing other security measures such as copyright notices, digital rights management (DRM) tools, and legal agreements like licenses or contracts. Regularly monitor your content online and promptly address any instances of unauthorized use or infringement.
Removing a watermark from someone else's content without permission is considered copyright infringement and is illegal in most jurisdictions. It's important to respect the rights of content creators and obtain proper authorization before using or modifying their work. If you come across watermarked content you'd like to use, contact the creator to inquire about licensing or usage rights.
There's no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the size and placement of your watermark may vary depending on the type of content and your personal preference. A common practice is to place the watermark in a corner of the image or video where it's visible but doesn't obstruct the main subject. Experiment with different sizes and placements to find the best for your content.
Consider elements representing your brand identity or personal style when designing your watermark. This may include incorporating your logo, brand name, initials, or a symbol that reflects your work. Strive for a design that is easily recognizable and complements the content it accompanies without overpowering it.
It's a good practice to watermark any digital content that you share publicly or that holds value to you. These include photographs, illustrations, graphics, videos, and documents. Adding a watermark can deter unauthorized use and ensure your ownership is acknowledged whenever your content is viewed or shared.
Watermarking your digital content helps protect your work from unauthorized use or theft by clearly identifying you as the creator or owner. They also enhance brand recognition and credibility, providing a visual stamp of authenticity on your content.
The choice depends on the nature of the project. Use vector graphics for designs that require scalability and frequent resizing, such as logos and signage.
Use raster graphics for detailed, complex images like photographs. You can also combine vector and raster graphics to create dynamic designs with image masks and text.
Yes, raster images can be converted to vectors through a process called vectorization. The success of this conversion largely depends on the complexity and quality of the original raster image.
While vector graphics are versatile, they’re not ideal for highly detailed images like photographs. Photographic and illustrative images are better represented in a raster format to capture the depth and variation in color and texture.
Vector graphics typically have smaller file sizes compared to raster graphics, especially for simpler designs. This is because vectors store image data as paths rather than pixels, requiring less memory.
Common vector file formats include .svg (scalable vector graphics), .eps (encapsulated PostScript), and .ai (Adobe Illustrator). These formats retain the vector properties of graphics across different platforms and software.
Yes, vector graphics are excellent for web and mobile applications because they maintain high quality at any scaling level, load faster due to their smaller file sizes, and adapt well to various screen resolutions.
Vector graphics are ideal for professional designs because they remain crisp and clear at any resolution, are easily editable, and can be adapted to various media without quality loss.

Absolutely. Understanding the 12 principles can vastly improve the dynamics of animated components in digital marketing materials. From making more engaging advertisements to developing eye-catching web elements, these principles add a layer of sophistication and depth to marketing designs.
They're not just for Disney animation; they're tools that can elevate any animated work. Linearity Move animation design software provides templates to make this process seamless for marketers and designers.
The core concepts behind the 12 principles have remained constant, but the way they're implemented has evolved with technological advancements. Today, digital tools can assist animators in creating more complex and realistic animations, as seen in the Disney Pixar film productions.
But the underlying animation principles continue to guide the human element of the art. This fusion of technology and foundational theory showcases the enduring relevance of the 12 principles in modern animation.
While the 12 principles were originally developed by Disney animators Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas, their application goes far beyond Disney cartoons and feature films.
These principles are universally recognized and applied in various forms of animation, including 2D, 3D, and stop motion. They're considered foundational skills for any aspiring animator to master.
Disney films are renowned for their high quality, rich storytelling, and groundbreaking techniques. One of the primary factors that sets Walt Disney feature films apart is the implementation of the 12 principles of animation. These principles offer a guideline for creating more realistic and emotionally compelling characters and scenes.
The marriage of artistry and technology in Disney animation continually sets the standard in the animation industry.
Disney cartoons have been pivotal in revolutionizing animation by implementing their 12 principles. These principles transformed animation from moving images to an art form capable of conveying complex emotions and stories.
Disney's commitment to innovation has led to iconic moments in cinematic history, making Disney cartoons international box office successes. Walt Disney's animation techniques are a cornerstone in the field of animation.
The creation of Disney cartoons is a highly intricate process that blends artistic vision with cutting-edge technology. Disney also has a very distinct, traditional animation style with its roots in cel animation.
Here's a simplified breakdown:
- Conceptualization: Ideas are generated and refined to produce an initial concept for the story, characters, and world.
- Scriptwriting: The concept is transformed into a full-fledged script, outlining the dialogue and actions for the entire animation.
- Storyboarding: Artists in the story department create a storyboard, a visual representation of the script akin to a comic book version of the movie.
- Design and planning: This is where characters, settings, and visual elements get their final designs. It's also when the 12 principles of animation start coming into play, guiding the animators in creating lifelike movements and emotional expressions.
- Animation: With the groundwork in place, animators use a variety of techniques. This may include hand drawing, computer-generated images (CGI), and even stop motion to bring the story to life.
- Voice acting: Concurrently or shortly after animation, voice actors record dialogue and give characters unique voices.
- Sound and music: Sound effects and music are added to complement the animation and enrich the narrative experience.
- Editing and post-production: The final step involves editing the animated sequences, synchronizing them with the audio, and performing final touch-ups. Some parts of the film may be cut at this point to shorten it for the cinemas.
- Release: Once everything is polished to perfection, the cartoon is ready for release to captivate audiences worldwide.
This process is a testament to Walt Disney Studios' commitment to quality and innovation, consistently elevating the standard of what animated graphics can achieve.
Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by rapidly displaying slightly differing static images in a sequence. This art form can be made by hand drawing, computer-generated graphics, robotics, or three-dimensional objects like puppets and clay figures.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has taken this motion technique to a whole new level by combining state-of-the-art technology with storytelling, ultimately giving life to unforgettable characters and stories.
Besides the use of animation in films, 2D and 3D animation is also widely used in video games, live action motion pictures, special effects, education, business, user interface and user experience (UI/UX), and more.
Custom wrapping paper can be printed at various online services or local print shops. Design platforms like Linearity Curve provide tools for uploading and customizing designs, while local printers can assist with printing and paper options.
It's a good idea to research different printers to find one that matches your quality requirements and budget.
Christmas wrapping paper originated in the early 20th century. It gained popularity when Hall brothers (who founded Hallmark Cards) began selling decorative envelope liners as wrapping paper in 1917. This innovation came about after they ran out of traditional white, red, and green tissue paper during the holiday season.
But the origin of gift wrapping goes back much further than the 20th century. Some of the earliest forms of gift wrapping were done with fabric, not paper. For example, the Japanese tradition of furoshiki (wrapping gifts in cloth) dates back to the 1600s. Wrapping paper became more popular and affordable in the West as printing technology improved and paper cards became widespread. Today, Americans spend billions of dollars on wrapping paper each year.
Reusing and recycling wrapping paper is a great way to be eco-friendly. Reuse it for craft projects, such as book covers, or for future gift-wrapping. Check if your local facility accepts wrapping paper for recycling, as some types (especially metallic or glittery paper) may not be recyclable.
To create a seamless repeating pattern, you must adjust and align your design elements for a continuous flow. The elements on the edges of your design should line up perfectly at each side to ensure a seamless transition.
Experiment with the spacing and arrangement of elements. With patience and attention to detail, you can ensure your pattern is flawless and ready for printing.
Absolutely. Incorporating photographs into your wrapping paper design can add a personal and unique touch. Whether it's a family photo, a scenic landscape, or any other meaningful image, photographs can elevate your design.
It’s important to ensure these photographs are high resolution to avoid pixelation when resized and printed. Ideally, photos should be 300 dpi at the size they'll be printed. This ensures that your images look crisp and clear.
When printing your custom wrapping paper, the file format is crucial in ensuring the best quality. For professional printing, it's recommended to use high-resolution .pdf or .tiff formats.
These formats preserve the quality and details of your design, ensuring that colors and patterns are reproduced accurately and vividly on the final printed product. Ensure your design is set to the correct resolution, typically 300 dpi (dots per inch), to avoid any loss in quality during printing.
In the past, before the technological advancements we have today, animators used their talented artistic abilities to sketch and design their characters.
Nowadays, animators are spoilt for choice, with countless software programs catering to various animation levels, from beginner to professional. There isn't a shortage of options, with Adobe products and Linearity Move being popular choices for designers and marketers.
Linearity Move is excellent for both beginner and professional animators. It has an easy-to-use interface and handy tools and templates for character creation through the different animation stages.
Animation transcends language barriers and cultural differences, making it an effective medium for storytelling and visual communication on a global scale.
It allows creators to convey complex ideas, evoke emotion, and entertain audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Animation is indispensable for engaging, educating, and inspiring audiences worldwide on digital platforms.
Animators contribute to the creative process by collaborating with directors, writers, and designers to develop visual concepts and refine character designs and storyboard scenes.
They use their artistic vision and technical expertise to bring ideas to fruition, iterating on feedback and pushing the boundaries of creativity to achieve the desired aesthetic and narrative impact.
Animation adds depth, motion, and visual appeal to multimedia projects and entertainment content. It allows creators to depict fantastical worlds, convey complex ideas, and evoke emotion through visuals and movement.
Animation can captivate audiences of all ages and enhance storytelling.
Animation profoundly impacts audience engagement and retention due to its ability to stimulate the imagination.
Whether in the form of a memorable character, a stunning visual sequence, or a captivating storyline, animation can captivate viewers and leave a lasting impression long after the experience has ended.
Several renowned animators achieved fame and success without a formal college education, carving out notable careers based on talent, experience, and dedication. Here are a few:
- Hayao Miyazaki—Despite not attending a specific animation school, Miyazaki became one of the most celebrated animators worldwide. He studied economics and political science at Gakushuin University but moved into animation by joining Toei Animation as an artist.
- Lotte Reiniger—She showed an interest in silhouette puppetry and filmmaking from a young age. Reiniger learned the basics of filmmaking and animation through her involvement with the avant-garde art scene in Germany rather than through formal academic studies in animation. Her unique technique involved manipulating cutouts made from cardboard and thin sheets of lead under a camera. This method was something she developed on her own, inspired by Chinese shadow puppetry.
- Te Wei—He studied traditional Chinese painting at the School of Art at the Hangzhou National College (now Zhejiang University). Te Wei began his career in the 1930s as a political cartoonist and illustrator for newspapers and magazines before transitioning into animation in the late 1940s when he joined the Shanghai Animation Film Studio.
- Matt Groening—Best known as the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, Groening's journey into animation was unorthodox. Groening studied philosophy at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. He didn't take any animation courses. His focus was on writing and drawing. His early career started with the comic strip Life in Hell, which caught the attention of James L. Brooks, a television producer. Brooks approached Groening to create a series of animated shorts for The Tracey Ullman Show. These shorts eventually evolved into The Simpsons, one of history's longest-running and most influential television shows.
Successful animators possess a combination of artistic talent, technical proficiency, and storytelling ability.
Essential skills include drawing and illustration, proficiency with animation software and tools, understanding anatomy and movement, and the ability to convey emotion and narrative through animation.
The salary of an animator can vary widely depending on their skills, experience, the industry they work in, and their geographical location. On average, salaries in the United States for animators range from:
- Entry-level: Around $40,000 to $60,000 per year.
- Mid-career: Approximately $60,000 to $85,000 per year.
- Experienced: Can exceed $100,000 per year for highly skilled and senior positions.
Animators working in film and video industries tend to earn more than those in advertising or web design. Also, major entertainment hubs like Los Angeles or New York offer higher salaries compared to other regions. Freelance animators may have varying incomes based on the projects they secure and their rates.
Animators create sequences of images to produce the illusion of movement when displayed in rapid succession. They work in various mediums, including traditional hand-drawn animation, computer-generated imagery (CGI), and stop motion. Their responsibilities typically involve:
- Designing characters and backgrounds
- Developing storyboards that map out key scenes and sequences
- Creating frames for each scene
- Utilizing software to compile and edit images into fluid animations
- Collaborating with directors, other animators, and clients to ensure that the final product aligns with the creative vision and meets project requirements
Animators are crucial in the fields of film, television, video games, and online media. They often specialize in one area, such as character, background, or effects animation.
Yes. Consider copyright and trademark laws when designing your poster. Ensure you have the rights to any fonts, images, or other assets you use. Also, get permission for the use of artists' names and likenesses if they’re prominently featured. It's wise to consult with legal counsel to avoid any potential infringement issues.
Common mistakes include overcrowding the poster with too much information, using fonts that are difficult to read, and failing to create a visual hierarchy that effectively guides the viewer through the content. Another frequent error is not aligning the design with the festival's identity, resulting in a poster that feels disconnected from the event it promotes.

Animated logos can be shared across a wide range of digital platforms to maximize your brand's visibility and impact. This includes your company website, social media channels, email signatures, promo videos, and video content platforms like YouTube or Vimeo.
Sharing your animated logo in these spaces helps establish a cohesive brand identity and can make your brand more memorable to your audience.
The optimal duration for an animated logo typically ranges from 3 to 7 seconds. This time frame is long enough to capture the viewer's attention and convey the brand's message or identity. But it’s short enough to keep the audience engaged without delay.
The length should be tailored to suit the platform it's intended for and the specific goals of your branding strategy. Sticking to these guidelines will ensure your animated logo complements the customer’s experience rather than disrupting it.
The size of an animated logo can vary depending on its intended use. For web use, keeping the file size under 2 MB is recommended to ensure quick loading times without sacrificing quality.
In terms of dimensions, aim for a resolution that maintains clarity across devices; for example, 1080 x 1080px for square logos or 1920 x 1080px for wider logos. Always consider the platform's requirements on which the logo will be displayed and optimize the size accordingly to maintain a balance between quality and performance.
Yes, animated logos can positively contribute to search engine optimization (SEO) and website user engagement. While the animation itself doesn't directly affect SEO rankings, it can significantly improve user experience (UX) and lead to longer visit durations and lower bounce rates.
An engaging animated logo can capture visitors' attention, making them more likely to interact with your site and explore its content further.
Choose an image relevant to your message, high-quality, and simple in composition. It should align with your brand’s visual identity and evoke the desired emotion. Consider the type of animation you plan to use and ensure the image allows creative freedom for animation elements.
Focus on originality, high-quality visuals, and engaging stories. Tailoring content to your target readers and staying current with trends can also make your posts more noticeable.
Yes. Interactive elements (clickable links, quizzes, or polls) can be included on platforms like Instagram using features like Stories and Reels.

The first full-length film under the Disney banner that used extensive computer-generated animation was Toy Story, released in 1995. This film was produced in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios and is the first feature film made entirely with computer animation. It marked a significant milestone in the history of animated films.
While Toy Story was a collaboration with Pixar, the first entirely Disney-produced film that heavily utilized computer-generated animation was Dinosaur, released in 2000. This film featured advanced CGI for the characters set against live-action backgrounds, showcasing Disney's expanding capabilities in computer animation.
Computer animation creates a sequence of images or frames and displays them rapidly to create the illusion of motion. This process involves modeling, rigging, texturing, animating, and rendering objects or characters using specialized software.
There are a number of computer animation pioneers. Two significant contributors are Ivan Sutherland and Ken Knowlton. Sutherland developed the Sketchpad software in 1963, one of the first graphical user interfaces, which greatly influenced how computers could create and manipulate images directly on a screen.
Knowlton developed the BEFLIX (Bell Flicks) animation software, which was among the first programming languages designed for producing computer animations.
Digital computer animation was first invented in the early 1960s. One of the first known uses of digital computer animation was a short film created by Edward E. Zajac in 1961, which simulated the motion of a satellite orbiting Earth. This was followed by other early experiments, including works by Ivan Sutherland, who developed the groundbreaking program Sketchpad in 1963, allowing users to create and manipulate objects interactively on a computer screen.
John Whitney Sr. was a pioneering figure in the development of computer animation. His work in the field dates back to the 1940s and 1950s, when he started experimenting with motion graphics by using mechanical systems like modified anti-aircraft analog computers to create animation.
He's best known for his groundbreaking work on motion graphics using computers. One of his most significant contributions was using a computer to create the opening sequence for Alfred Hitchcock's movie Vertigo in 1958. This was achieved through mechanical means.
By the 1960s, Whitney had transitioned to digital methods.

A strong sense of branding will leave a lasting impression on audiences and improve brand recognition over time, which is key for turning potential customers into loyal consumers.
Getting the rhythm right. Most animated ads last 30 seconds to a minute, meaning you have little time to communicate your story.
This isn’t a constraint so much as an opportunity to tighten your pacing and take the viewer on a carefully planned journey through the narrative.
A well-paced video is the key to keeping your audience engaged in the attention economy—one or two seconds of wasted time, and you’re in danger of being scrolled past.
Every second counts. Focus on the essentials of your message and limit any fluff or unnecessary details that aren’t contributing to the narrative.
No need to overthink this one: an animated ad is any sort of promotional video used by businesses to make an audience aware of products, services, or a brand.
This type of advertising dates back to the 1940s, which means that companies have long recognized the power of animated videos in marketing.
These types of videos are especially effective in telling a narrative that captivates an audience’s emotions. They can range from simple graphic animations to more complex ideas with compelling visuals, background music, and voiceovers.
Practically any industry can make use of the power of an animated ad—we’ll show you some stand-out examples from the food, retail, and tech industries, just to name a few.
The animation style you choose can radically influence the tone and effectiveness of your presentation. Here are some of the commonly used animation styles in presentations:
- Flat design animation: Simplistic yet impactful, flat design animation uses two-dimensional visual elements that are easy on the eyes and straightforward. It's often employed in tech and modern business presentations for a clean look.
- Material design animation: Stemming from Google’s Material Design guidelines, this style offers more depth and shadow compared to flat design. It's tactile, grounded, and employs responsive animations and transitions.
- Cartoon style: Perfect for engaging younger audiences or for topics that benefit from a lighter tone, cartoon-style animation is entertaining and attention-grabbing.
- Skeuomorphic design: This style imitates real-world objects, often with a degree of realism. While considered somewhat dated in web design, it still holds its ground in presentations where the physical analogy aids understanding.
- Retro style: Heavily inspired by styles from the '70s, '80s, or '90s, this nostalgic animation style can add a unique flair and stand out for its creativity.
- Abstract animation: Often used to evoke emotions or concepts, abstract animation can be non-linear, featuring geometric shapes, patterns, or a mishmash of various elements.
- Stop motion: This animation style involves manipulating real-world objects and photographing them one frame at a time. Digital emulation of stop motion in presentations can add a tactile and artisanal feel.
- Line art animation: With its roots in traditional sketching, this animation style is versatile and can range from simplistic to incredibly detailed, based solely on lines and shapes.
- Particle animation: Ideal for conveying complex processes or phenomena, particle animation uses dynamic, small graphical units to represent data or elements. It's particularly impactful in scientific or tech-based presentations.
- Cinematic animation: Incorporating elements of film techniques like depth of field, lens flares, and high-quality rendering, this style adds sophistication and is often used for corporate storytelling.
- Kinetic typography: Often overlooked but incredibly potent, typography animation focuses on animating text to convey emotion or stress key points. From simple fades and swipes to more elaborate motions like spiraling or flipping, the text itself becomes a dynamic part of the visual storytelling. This style is particularly useful when working with text-heavy presentations that still need that "wow" factor.
The choice of animation style will invariably depend on your target audience, your message, and the aesthetic you aim to achieve. Each style carries its own connotations and impact, so choose the one that best aligns with your vision.
Gone are the days of mere slide transitions. Now, we're talking about interactive storytelling. Here are some types of animated presentations you'll commonly encounter:
- Motion graphics presentations: These are the smooth operators of the animation world. Motion graphics are ideal for explaining complex topics in a digestible way, often employed to turn abstract data into visually compelling stories.
- Animated storytelling: Think of this as your classic Pixar or Disney film but in presentation form. These presentations have a narrative structure and often have characters, making them engaging and easy to follow.
- Explainer videos: A subcategory of motion graphics, explainer videos focus more on simplifying a concept or process. This is your go-to if you have a product to launch or an intricate concept to convey.
- 3D animated presentations: If you want to make an impactful presentation with depth and realism, 3D animations can be the answer. These are often used in architectural presentations or in-depth product demos.
- Interactive presentations: These presentations are not linear but allow users to click around, engage with the content, and explore at their own pace. This makes them ideal for kiosks, self-paced training modules, and more.
- Whiteboard animations: Imagine a hand sketching out ideas on a whiteboard. Whiteboard animations can be incredibly effective for educational purposes, breaking down a concept step by step.
- Isometric animated presentations: These give a pseudo-3D look with isometric illustrations, providing depth without the computational load of real 3D graphics. These are trending in the tech industry for their modern aesthetic.
- Mixed-media presentations: Combining live-action footage with animation, mixed-media presentations offer a rich, textured experience. This format effectively combines human emotion and storytelling with data or other information.
- Augmented Reality (AR) presentations: While less common, AR presentations are emerging as a novel form of conveying information. These interactive animations are overlaid in the real world, often via a smartphone or tablet, for a truly immersive learning experience.
Each type of animated presentation offers a unique set of advantages and challenges. Your choice should align with your message, your audience's expectations, and the kind of emotional or intellectual engagement you aim to provoke.
There are many ways to use masks in animation. Using Linearity Move, you can easily draw and mask a shape in the Quick Actions Toolbar. In Animate Mode, Move automatically creates keyframes and applies easing to streamline your animation process.
Animating a mask smoothly in Adobe After Effects involves keyframe interpolation:
- Set keyframes: Place your keyframes at the start and end points of your animation.
- Easy Ease: Apply the Easy Ease function to your keyframes for smoother acceleration and deceleration of the animation.
- Graph Editor: Use the Graph Editor to fine-tune the speed and timing of your mask animation. Adjusting the handles in the graph editor allows you to control the motion curve for each keyframe, ensuring a fluid transition.
Yes, masks are extremely useful for selectively applying color correction. By masking a part of your footage, you can adjust the color settings (like brightness, contrast, and saturation) within that mask, leaving the rest of the footage unchanged.
This advanced technique is ideal for correcting exposure on faces, enhancing the sky without affecting the landscape, or drawing attention to specific elements through color.
Masks can be used in numerous creative ways:
- Transitional effects: Create unique transitions between scenes using masks that animate to reveal the next scene in a creative pattern.
- Text reveals: Use video footage to fill in the text by masking the text shape over your video, which can be particularly effective for titles or key messages in promotional videos.
- Spotlight effects: Highlight a specific area of your footage by creating a spotlight effect. Mask around the area you want to highlight and apply a brightness effect to just that part.
- Custom animation paths: Mask an object and animate the mask path to make the object appear as if it is moving through an environment in your video.
Masking is a powerful tool in marketing videos, allowing for precise control over visual elements. It can focus viewer attention on specific products, dynamically highlight new features, and seamlessly integrate promotional messages or text overlays.
For example, you can mask out an older product model and reveal the new one beneath it to emphasize upgrades or changes, making your marketing message clearer and more compelling.
You can certainly animate hand-drawn sketches. The sketches will need to be digitized first, which can be done using a scanner or by taking a high-quality photograph. Once digitized, these images can be imported into animation software where they can be refined and animated.
Common mistakes include ignoring the principles of animation such as timing and spacing, which can make animations feel unnatural. Beginners often overlook the importance of planning their animation before starting, leading to inconsistent pacing and storytelling.
Another frequent error is using too much motion, which can overwhelm the viewer and detract from the main message of the animation.
The impact of animation can be measured through various metrics depending on the goals of your project. For websites, you might measure user engagement through increased time on site and reduced bounce rates.
For marketing videos, effectiveness can be gauged through viewer retention rates, engagement metrics, and conversion rates. Tools like Google Analytics or video analytics from platforms like YouTube or Vimeo can provide these insights.
Yes, there are several free tools available for beginners to learn animation. Blender is a powerful option for both 2D and 3D animation and is completely free.
Other options include Synfig Studio and Pencil2D, which are also free and provide a good starting point for learning basic animation techniques.
The time it takes to create a simple animation can vary widely based on the complexity of the project and your proficiency with the animation tools. A basic animation, such as a simple text effect or logo animation, can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours.
More complex animations involving multiple elements and intricate motions can take significantly longer.
The choice of software can vary depending on your specific needs and the complexity of the animations you intend to create. For beginners, a tools like Linearity Move is a great starting point.
We’ve compared some of the big animation makers for you to work out what the right platform is for you.
An anime music video, also called an “AMV,” is often fan-produced to match the music. There are multiple types of anime drawing styles, and this term doesn’t single out any of them. AMV can also refer to "animated music videos," so it’s important to highlight context when referring to the abbreviation.
There are many types of animation videos. Typically, they’re named after the process used to create them, e.g., claymation, traditional cel animation, cutout animation, etc. The most well-known animation videos are 2D animation, 3D animation, and stop motion.
The global animation industry has experienced a remarkable evolution over the years. Once primarily associated with children's cartoons, animation has expanded its reach to include various genres, such as feature films, television shows, video games, advertising, and immersive experiences.
Music videos aren’t necessarily considered examples of traditional visual art, but they’re certainly an artform taken in by sight and appreciated by many.
Music videos are an artform. As with any artform, anything goes. As freeing (and as daunting) as this may be, there are a few guidelines to keep your project on track and ensure that you aren’t falling behind. These include:
- Conceptualize: Ensure you map out, if even roughly, a concept so that you’re well aware of the direction needed during the project.
- Create a timeline: To keep your project flowing, you’ll need to set a realistic timeline that allows you (and your team) to complete the project steps. This will also ensure the project remains active and the creative momentum isn’t lost.
- Using the right tools: Whether you’re an experienced animator or you’re testing the waters, using the best equipment and software will mean the difference between a good outcome and a great one.
- Keep creating: Ensure that you keep your ideas with you - you never know when inspiration may strike, and you want to create on the go.
Here are some features to consider:
- Template library: Variety and quality of templates for different styles and themes.
- Customization options: Ability to change fonts, colors, animations, and music to match your branding.
- Free vs Paid options: Features and limitations of free plans compared to paid subscriptions.
- Export options: Ability to download your intro in high-quality video formats.
Intro maker tools are generally designed to be user-friendly, even for beginners with no editing experience. Many use a drag-and-drop interface where you can easily customize templates with your own text, logos, and colors.
Some free intro makers might add a watermark to your intro video. This watermark is usually a way to advertise their service. Paid plans typically allow you to remove watermarks.
No! There are many free and paid intro maker tools available online that allow you to create a professional-looking intro even with no design experience.
Your intro can include your channel logo, channel name, a catchy slogan, and some background music or sound effects. You can also use animation or motion graphics to make it visually appealing.
Ideally, your intro should be short and sweet, around 5-10 seconds long. You want to capture viewers' attention quickly without dragging on.
A YouTube Intro is a short video clip that plays at the beginning of your videos. It can help brand your channel, introduce yourself or your channel's theme, and grab viewers' attention.
Yes, there are several alternatives to After Effects that also offer robust text animation capabilities. Linearity Move provides powerful animation features for Mac and iPad users, while software like Blender offers open-source 3D capabilities. If your animation isn’t playing smoothly, try reducing the preview resolution or using the RAM Preview function to pre-render your animation. This allows you to view the animation without interruptions. Ensure your computer meets the software’s system requirements for optimal performance.
Another technique you can try is adding a slight blur to your animated text. This will decrease the flicker or twitter that may occur when viewing the animation on different screen sizes.
Absolutely. Linearity offers comprehensive and easy-to-follow video tutorials for beginners and professionals working on Mac and iPad.
Adobe also has a robust community and numerous online resources. Third-party websites like Video Copilot and School of Motion offer in-depth guides and video tutorials that can help you improve your After Effects skills.
Consider using easing and motion blur to add dynamism to your text animations. Easing (found in keyframe settings) softens the start and end of an animation, making it look more natural.
Motion blur can be enabled from the composition settings and adds a blur effect to moving objects, mimicking how the human eye perceives motion.
Linearity Move's animation presets automatically apply natural movements and blurs to simplify the animation process.
Yes, animating text along a path is a powerful way to guide your audience’s attention and enhance storytelling. To do this, first create a path using the Pen tool. Then, select your text layer, go to the Path Options, and choose the path from the drop-down menu in the Text panel.
Adobe After Effects offers a variety of presets that are ideal for beginners and pros alike. For starters, you might try presets like 'Typewriter' and 'Slide In.'
These can be found under the Effects & Presets panel and are great for adding quick, professional-looking animations to your text.
The cost can vary depending on the program's format (online vs in-person), the institution, and the length of the course. Generally, certificate programs are less expensive than degrees.

1. Missing Fonts or Fonts Not Matching
Issue: Sometimes fonts used in Figma are not recognized or matched exactly when importing into Linearity Curve or Move. Missing fonts will be replaced automatically with Helvetica.
Workaround: Ensure the fonts used in your Figma design are installed locally on your device. This will help the plugin recognize and use the correct fonts in Curve or Move.
2. Using the Plugin on iOS Devices
Issue: Figma support on iOS is limited.
Workaround: To import from Figma on iOS, use the browser. The native Figma app on iOS does not support editing or plugins. Log in to Figma through your browser and use it as you would on a desktop. This allows you to access the full functionality of Figma, including using the Linearity plugin.
3. Importing Takes Too Long or Plugin isn't responsive
Issue: Importing may take longer than expected, especially with heavy images, causing the plugin to appear unresponsive.
Workaround:
- Please wait for a few seconds; most imports complete within a few seconds.
- If the problem persists, try importing your design in smaller steps.
- Optimize images before import to reduce load times.
4. Effects and Other Properties Like Corner Radius
Issue: Effects such as blur or drop shadows, and properties like corner radius, might not be imported directly from Figma. Workaround: Although this is the case, most effects can be achieved within Curve and Move. Simply apply them after importing using the tools available in these applications. Both Curve and Move support these effects and can replicate them post-import.
5. Single-Line Text
Issue: When importing multi-lined text, it is imported as multiple single lines.
Workaround: This is a known limitation. While the text remains fully editable, we recommend grouping the text elements after importing to better manage them in Curve or Move.
6. Layers Naming Differences
Issue: Layers may have different names in Linearity Curve or Move compared to Figma.
Workaround: Although this is a known issue, if this is a problem for you, you can easily navigate and rename layers in Curve and Move using the layers panel.
7. Image as Fill
Issue: Linearity Curve and Move do not support images as fill; images are added as masks instead.
Workaround: You can easily switch images in the layers panel to manage masks. In Curve, simply drag and drop to replace an image quickly. This method allows you to adjust and manage your images effortlessly after importing.

Vector files for logos are great for social media like SoundCloud because they can infinitely be adjusted in size without losing their high resolution. With photographs, especially low-quality images, you risk causing pixelation when you scale them up to fit different image sizes.
You're also limited by how much you can crop your raster images, and changing square images to landscape or portrait sizes may not have the desired results.
This makes vector files more versatile when designing your SoundCloud profile and album cover art, especially if you want to use the same images on other social media platforms like Meta (Facebook).

Based on these distinctions, you can choose which image file type is best for uploading your profile image, banner image, or album cover art.
Profile picture
The profile picture file size you can upload must be up to 2MB. It must also be at least 1000 x 1000px (aspect ratio of 1:1).
Banner image
To upload header images, the banner size should be within a 2MB size limit and at least 2480 x 520px.
Album or song cover image
The album and song cover images should be up to 2MB. Like the profile picture, they must have a square 1:1 aspect ratio and be at least 800 x 800px.

You can also share GIFs directly through messaging apps or embed them on websites and blogs.
Yes, like any other form of media, GIFs can be subject to copyright laws. Always ensure you have the right to use the content of a GIF, especially if you are using images or videos created by someone else.
GIFs are widely used for entertainment, advertising, tutorials, and as reactions or expressions in digital communications. They help convey emotions, actions, or messages in a dynamic format that's more engaging than static images.
Different platforms have different specifications, such as file size limits and dimensions. Generally, you should:
- Keep the GIF under 15 seconds to ensure it loops smoothly.
- Reduce the resolution or frame rate to lower the file size.
- Use editing tools to compress the GIF without significantly losing quality.
You can use a variety of tools depending on your platform:
- Smartphones: Built-in features in the photos or camera app, or third-party apps like GIPHY Cam or ImgPlay.
- Computers: Software like Adobe Photoshop for frame-by-frame editing or Adobe After Effects for animated GIFs.
- Online: Websites like GIPHY, EZGif, or Imgur's Video to GIF tool.

A GIF is an animated file format that can display individual frames from images or a video as a single looping video. GIFs can also be static images.
The file extension .gif stands for Graphic Interchange Format, and these handy compressed files have been around since the 1980s. (Sidebar to discuss pronunciation: officially it’s pronounced ‘jif’ with a soft G like giraffe, but rules were made to be broken, so if the hard G just makes more sense to you, we’re not judging).
GIFs can be used in all sorts of online contexts, and are especially valuable for people and companies who want to build a brand personality, engage with their audience, and create eye-catching content.
Making your own animated GIF files is a fun way to personalize your content and quickly communicate exactly what you’re trying to say. We know that using motion graphics is a great way to build a strong brand identity, and personalized GIFs can help you do just that.

While most modern email clients support GIFs, a few still may not display them properly or at all. It's important to test your emails across different devices and email platforms to ensure your GIFs are working as intended.
We would love to hear your suggestions! Please post them to our Ideas & Feedback group where your fellow community members can vote on them, allowing us to gauge their popularity and perhaps add them to our Roadmap in the future.
To optimize your GIFs, try reducing the number of frames in your animation, using a limited color palette, and keeping the file size small.
By simplifying your design and focusing on key movements or elements, you can create an effective and eye-catching animated image that won't slow down your email load time.
Another way to optimize your GIFs is to use compression tools or software like EZGIF to reduce the file size without compromising quality. This can help ensure your GIFs load quickly and smoothly for your email recipients.
At the moment, in addition to Apple Pencils, Linearity Curve is compatible with Montblanc Augmented Paper and Wacom Slate devices.

Troubleshooting
While working on your file, a degree of blurring is expected while navigating the canvas, zooming in/out or moving objects around but it should not appear in the final export unless blur settings have been applied.
If exporting to JPEG format, quality can be manually increased during the exporting process or alternatively, if exporting to a different format, such as PNG, we recommend increasing the resolution while exportingWe also advise that, depending on the screen being used, quality may appear lower than it truly is. If you would like to see the absolute resolution, simply right click on the file and select Get Info.
It is currently not possible to set custom DPI within Linearity Curve. Non-vector elements get exported with the default value 72 DPI.
However, if exporting to PNG or JPEG it is possible to adjust Resolution and, in the case of JPEG, adjust image Quality also.
There are no file backup options available within Linearity Curve, however, all files are saved within the application automatically and can be accessed at any time.
Illustration Mode is only available for devices operating with an A12 processor and newer M1 MacBooks or higher.
This restriction is in place due to the high processing power and technological demands that Illustration Mode presents.
We don’t currently have any plans to release an Android or Windows version of Vectornator.
Vectornator is available for iPad and iPhone, and Mac. Download it Now.

- After 10,000 actions, the Undo history will be cleared out and you won't be able to export the video too.
- When the Undo history reaches 25 MB on iPhone, 45 MB on iPad and 140 MB on macOS, the video can no longer be exported. (Please consider that these are approx values, it depends on the actions you take, e.g. you paste some heavy file as an image into the artboard)
- You have the Optimized Mode enabled, which does not allow to save undo history once you exit the session.

macOS
We no longer support macOS 11 as our latest updates rely on advanced technologies that are not available on Big Sur. Linearity Curve will provide cutting edge performance on the smoother macOS 12 Monterey and macOS 13 Ventura. It is also not possible to install older versions of Linearity Curve onto your device.
Many of the additions and changes in the newest version of Linearity Curve are based on the latest macOS technologies and requires macOS 12 or later, and 64-bit processor. If you have problems updating Linearity Curve, make sure your macOS version is up to date.
We are discontinuing support for macOS 11 because our latest update relies on advanced technologies that are unfortunately not available on Big Sur. It is also not possible to install older versions of Linearity Curve onto your device.
You can have only one version of the Linearity Curve app installed on your device. Simply delete the old version of Linearity Curve and install the new version.
There are multiple ways to duplicate an element in Linearity Curve:
To duplicate any element, press ⌥ and simply drag your element into the desired position.
Alternatively, select your element and press ⌘C to copy it then ⌘V to paste the duplicate onto the artboard directly above the original element.
It is also possible to activate Duplicate Mode via the Selection Tool options. Once activated, anything selected on the artboard will be duplicated.
To duplicate and repeat the last action you took simultaneously, you can instead use ⌘D.
You can find your files directly within the Linearity Curve software. Files are not saved locally on your device.

If files were not successfully migrated from Vectornator to Linearity Curve and deleted Vectornator then unfortunately all locally stored files are not recoverable. However, there is a chance that iCloud files are still there and can be migrated to Linearity Curve.
If files were successfully migrated from Vectornator to Linearity Curve and Linearity Curve was deleted then these files will be accessible from the account for a period of time.
If Linearity Curve was updated and deleted again during the file migration process then local files that were not yet migrated will not be recoverable. However, any remaining iCloud files will be accessible until imported to your Linearity Curve application.
All Linearity Curve files can be accessed directly within the Linearity Curve application. Files are not stored locally within your device.
Linearity Cloud
Yes, there is a potential risk. We strongly recommend against uninstalling Linearity Curve before your migration has been fully completed.
Uninstalling the application may trigger MacOS, iPadOS, or iOS to automatically remove all locally stored files upon deletion.
Additionally, if you log out, reset your device, or delete your account, there is a possibility that any files not yet synced may be permanently lost.
At the moment, file deletion in Linearity Cloud is permanent. However, we're actively working on addressing this limitation to offer more flexible options in the future.
In the case of file deletions within the "On my Device" and "iCloud" spaces, you can conveniently recover deleted files from your "Recently deleted" section within the Files app or the macOS Bin.
Any files you want to access across devices should be migrated to Linearity Cloud. Once there, they become synchronized and are accessible from any device with Linearity Curve installed.
Migrating is easy: just open and edit your files in Linearity Curve to move them from your iPad or Mac storage. Additionally, importing files from Finder, iCloud, or the Files app will automatically store and sync them to Linearity Cloud.
No, your Forum account is not linked to your Linearity account.
Your files remain secure in their original places, whether it's iCloud or your device storage. We won't delete any data without your permission. However, if you prefer having a backup for peace of mind, you can export all your files in .curve format and save them locally.
Any new document you create will be automatically saved in Linearity Cloud as a .curve file, and you can easily export and store it wherever you choose.
After upgrading your software and signing in to your account, you can choose to migrate all your files at once using the “Migrate Now” button. This option enables you to migrate all your files in one swift move.
Alternatively, you can migrate files one at a time by opening and editing them. Any changes you make will automatically save to Linearity Cloud. Plus, any new documents created will be added there, too.
Once all your files are migrated, you’ll be prompted to delete them from their original locations. The iCloud and local storage spaces will then be removed from the Homescreen.
Yes. Linearity Cloud provides the flexibility to create, edit, duplicate, delete, and rename files without an internet connection.
Your files will seamlessly synchronized across all your devices once your internet connection is restored.
